Descendants of Thomas HUTCHESSON and Mary CRANE
introduction:
Thomas HUTCHESSON snr (1806-1844), my GGGGF, died in South Bank,
Wisbech (and
here), Cambridgeshire, England, 4 months before the birth of his youngest son, Thomas HUTCHESSON jnr.
Thomas HUTCHESSON snr married Mary CRANE (1810-1851) in 1838 at Elm, Cambridgeshire, England where Mary was born. Mary had 2 children to her first partner - Henry H CRANE and Sarah CRANE before marrying Thomas; Mary was buried in South Bank.
After their parents had both died, the 3 sons, John, Reuben and Thomas HUTCHESSON came to Australia with John Crane jnr I (b.1785 ie. Gfather), Uncle William Hutchesson (transcribed as Hutchinson), Aunt Elizabeth, Cousin Catharine, Cousin Edward, bros John & Thomas aboard
Almora arriving in Melbourne in Feb 1855 as unassisted passengers but transcribed as Hutchinson. (see
here)
Thomas HUTCHESSON jnr (1845-1918) my GGGF, b. Cambridgeshire, England. d. Jung, Vic. arrived in Port Adelaide on the
Almora in 1855 and in 1865 married Elizabeth Ann
BAKER (1851-1942 m. 1865) b. Devon, England. d. Horsham, Vic.
interestingly, Elizabeth Ann BAKER's great grandmother was also a CRANE, presumably related to Mary CRANE.
Their son, Arthur HUTCHESSON (1869-1960) is my maternal great grandfather and was b. Yahl, Sth. Aust. d. Mildura, Victoria.
Arthur married
Martha Jane BRILL (1874-1965) and had 4 daughters, of whom, May was my maternal grandmother.
Reuben HUTCHESSON's wife and cousin, Eleanor CRANE and her family came to Australia in 1852 in the ship
Epaminondas1). They landed at Port Adelaide. Eleanor's father was a brother to Reuben's mother.
John HUTCHESSON settled in Millicent, Sth Aust.

possible relatives in Australia:
David HUTCHESSON:
David HUTCHESSON came out to Australia in 1846 and together with brothers George and John formed a firm they called HUTCHESSON BROTHERS. The HENTYs vacated the license to RUNNYMEDE in March 1846 and the license was subsequently taken up by HUTCHESSON BROTHERS. Much of the leasehold was poor, scrubby land and only carried a relatively small number of sheep.
In 1854, John HUTCHESSON built the first flour mill in Hamilton a three story bluestone Mill, with the stones steam driven. His wife Ann ROBERTSON, sister of George ROBERTSON of “WARROCK”, died in 1856 and soon afterwards he married his housekeeper, Mary McDONALD. During the subsequent 9 years the couple produced 5 children. They were named David George, James Charles, William Robert, John and Isabella “John”.
John died in March 1870 disemboweled by a horse. In the same year, his younger brother David suicided by slashing his throat with a pocketknife after being brought home to RUNNYMEDE from the GLENELG INN in an intoxicated condition.
In 1872, the HUTCHESSONS took up land near SANDFORD. They name the property “MOREDUN HILL” and built the first homestead there. The property name was named after an area in Perthshire, Scotland from which the HUTCHESSONS originated. Before long, members of the family moved out to Carapook and took up “OAKLANDS”(it was covered with she-oaks). The property is now called “KARUMA”

possible relatives in England:
a Thomas HUTCHESSON married a descendent of the Royal family, Amy De Beauvior PRIAULX before 1857.
there was also a Rev. Thomas HUTCHESSON (1726-1789) who was an incumbent of St Augustine's church, Northbourne in 1772 see
here, who held the living from 1772-1789, but Northbourne seems to far from Wisbech to be relevant.
was
ordained in London at
Ely Chapel in 1749 (the town chapel for the Bishops of Ely). His first church in his cure was Pentney and West Bilney, south-east of King's Lynn.
he became Rector of Elmstone, Vicar of Northbourne, and perpetual Curate of Shoulden in the county of Kent
children of his 2nd wife Elizabeth BEALE:
Elizabeth HUTCHESSON
General Thomas HUTCHESSON (born January 11, 1781, died 1857)
fought for England in the reserve artillery section against Napoleon at Waterloo (actually Ostend) in 1815 - could he have been Thomas snr's father? Seems unlikely.
-
it seems as Capt Thomas Hutchesson of the Royal Artillery Foot Battery he became a Lieut-General, died in 1857 in his residence at Clarence Lawn, Dover
