Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM lens
introduction
wide angle rectilinear prime lens offering 63º diagonal field of view = 40º vertical and 56º horizontal
35mm focal length is a favourite focal length for street photographers and travel photographers although they would probably prefer a more compact f/2 or f/2.8 version

-
very sharp wide open and sharp to edges - the sharpest 35mm f/1.4 lens to date
vignetting 2.34EV in corners
0.33% barrel distortion
minimal CA, much less purple fringing, LoCA and softness and flare wide open than Mark I version and much less distortion
actual transmission T1.7

sharper, faster AF and more accurate focus than f/1.2 or the Sigma Art, but it does have a lot of vignetting
hand holdable to 1/4 sec with care

Ken's review is quite at odds to Photozone.de - perhaps due to variation in lens manufacturing
“ultra-sharp and free from ghosts and most distortion, it has great bokeh”
-
1.5% barrel distortion
2.4EV vignetting
sharpest centre at f/2.8 when it is extremely sharp, but very soft corners wide open - best overall at f/5.6
1px lat. CA and considerable long. CA
bokeh is nervous
-
“simply monstrous vignetting on full frame”
significant coma but well-corrected astigmatism
low CA, low distortion
poor corner image quality
-
-
Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART lens is sharper across the field, smoother bokeh, less CA, and almost no vignetting wide open!
-
0.4% distortion
2EV vignetting
16micron CA
