{"id":3275,"date":"2010-04-07T11:12:17","date_gmt":"2010-04-07T01:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=3275"},"modified":"2010-04-07T13:11:08","modified_gmt":"2010-04-07T03:11:08","slug":"panasonic-gh-1-with-leica-d-25mm-f1-4-on-a-quick-forest-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=3275","title":{"rendered":"Panasonic GH-1 with Leica-D 25mm f\/1.4 on a quick forest walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Easter Monday, I thought i would check out a local forest which was hand planted some 100 years ago in central Victorian highlands which makes it rather unique in Australia as it is mainly trees from northern hemisphere origin.<\/p>\n<p>I had never been to this forest before and as it was a beautiful sunny early Autumn day, it would be great for a walk, but probably too sunny for great photographic forest landscape shots.<\/p>\n<p>I only had an hour or so, so I took my beloved Panasonic GH-1 and Leica-D 25mm f\/1.4 lens with the primary aim just to document ideas for shots in better lighting and when I had more time.<\/p>\n<p>In stark contrast to native Australian Eucalypt forests, this man made forest of diversified trees including conifers, and oaks, had a very different ecology &#8211; most noticeable were the multitude of introduced mushroom species including <strong>the poisonous, hallucinogenic, Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria)<\/strong> and <strong>the very weird absence of the usually omnipresent Australian native bull ant<\/strong> &#8211; which I must say made the walking a lot more relaxed, as no-one enjoys being stung by those ants!<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the bull ants are killed by the Amanita, or they need Eucalypt habitat?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The flip out swivel LCD screen of the GH-1 was fantastic<\/strong> as usual for ground level work of hand held shots of mushrooms &#8211; the following two are at the closest focus of this lens and show the difference between f\/1.4 (the first one) and f\/2.8, &#8211; oh, and I do love native 16:9 image aspect ratio which is available on the GH-1!<\/p>\n<p>at f\/1.4:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070429.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070429.jpg\" alt=\"f\/1.4\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and at f\/2.8:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070430.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070430.jpg\" alt=\"f\/2.8\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and here is a more mature Amanita muscara:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070417.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070417.jpg\" alt=\"mature\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and of course, I better show a sample of this lovely forest:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070425.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/P1070425.jpg\" alt=\"forest\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>more photos from the walk <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/JAlbumAll\/ByLens\/PanasonicGH1\/LeicaD25mm\/Forests\/index.htm\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Easter Monday, I thought i would check out a local forest which was hand planted some 100 years ago in central Victorian highlands which makes it rather unique in Australia as it is mainly trees from northern hemisphere origin.
