{"id":6254,"date":"2013-11-29T06:24:03","date_gmt":"2013-11-28T20:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=6254"},"modified":"2013-12-01T07:52:08","modified_gmt":"2013-11-30T21:52:08","slug":"reports-that-comet-ison-has-failed-to-survive-its-journey-around-the-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=6254","title":{"rendered":"Reports that comet ISON C\/2012 S1 has failed to survive its journey around the sun may be wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the latest reports based on images such as the following, it seems that comet ISON has failed to survive it&#8217;s close encounter with the sun which will be a big disappointment for those in the northern hemisphere hoping to see a bright comet next week.<\/p>\n<p>Note that the brightest part of the comet is no longer the head:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kommet.cz\/datas\/users\/ison-failed-3_1.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kommet.cz\/datas\/users\/ison-failed-3_1.png\" alt=\"comet ISON Nov 28th 2013\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, since this image, a later image shows it is still there:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cosmos4u\/status\/406156751432458240\/photo\/1\/large\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/BaL1ad1CIAAqOro.png:large\" alt=\"comet survives\" width=600\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But as of 29th Nov, reports are that it has substantially faded to a magnitude of around +2.9 with suggestions that if the comet reappears it will probably be a large diffuse object without the usual dense comet head, and with a magnitude of +5 which will be a disappointment to those in the north hoping for a bright comet for Christmas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the latest reports based on images such as the following, it seems that comet ISON has failed to survive it&#8217;s close encounter with the sun which will be a big disappointment for those in the northern hemisphere hoping to see a bright comet next week.
