{"id":6694,"date":"2014-12-23T23:55:37","date_gmt":"2014-12-23T13:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=6694"},"modified":"2014-12-23T23:56:51","modified_gmt":"2014-12-23T13:56:51","slug":"victorian-goldfields-with-the-the-olympus-om-d-e-m5-part-vi-tarnagulla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=6694","title":{"rendered":"Victorian goldfields with the the Olympus OM-D E-M5 &#8211; part VI &#8211; Tarnagulla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stage VI of my road trip takes us further north east a few kilometres from the lovely gold rush town of Dunolly to the much smaller gold rush town of Tarnagulla.<\/p>\n<p>This quaint little town is well worth a visit with its old buildings and cottages and seemingly on the verge of becoming a ghost town.<\/p>\n<p>These photos were taken with the wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusomdem5\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus OM-D E-M5<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:microfourthirds\" target=\"_blank\">Micro Four Thirds<\/a> camera.<\/p>\n<p>Main street and former bank building  (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusmzd12mm\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus mZD 12mm f\/2 lens<\/a> at f\/3.2):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280700-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"bank\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280700-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280701-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"bank\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280701-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The old church with pink flamingos &#8211; unfortunately the church burnt down around 10 years ago and was sold into private hands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280704-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"church\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280704-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cottage window:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280695-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cottage\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280695-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Heading north from Tarnagulla takes one through some pleasant pastoral regions with old farm cottages such as these:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280715-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cottage\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280715-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280721-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cottage\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280721-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Then tracking to the north-west towards Wedderburn, there is a very nice granite outcrop hill where Captain Melville, a bushranger of the gold rush days hid from the police &#8211; hence its name &#8211; Melville Caves &#8211; a great spot to explore and there is a camping site at the top of the hill as well as a picnic ground at the base &#8211; here is a shot from within Melville&#8217;s cave:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280738-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Melville caves\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA280738-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Heading back to Melbourne from Maryborough, you cross cairn Curran Reservoir and pass through Newstead before reaching Castlemaine, and on the way you will see sites such as these:<\/p>\n<p>Old farm gates with water pump (my version of solarisation in Lightroom):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA010885-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"old farm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA010885-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Cairn Curran Reservoir with a low pressure weather system crossing Victoria bringing storms:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA010902-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cairn Curran Reservoir\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Victoria\/Goldfields\/GA010902-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stage VI of my road trip takes us further north east a few kilometres from the lovely gold rush town of Dunolly to the much smaller gold rush town of Tarnagulla.
