{"id":8609,"date":"2017-07-14T22:17:57","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T12:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=8609"},"modified":"2017-07-14T22:17:57","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T12:17:57","slug":"postcards-from-berlin-reflecting-upon-the-holocaust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=8609","title":{"rendered":"Postcards from Berlin: reflecting upon the holocaust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My little trip to Berlin wouldn&#8217;t be complete without taking time out to reflect on how men can behave so inhumanely and yet we still have not learn&#8217;t the lessons of where fear takes us to the dark side of absolutes and persecution.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of my take on the horrors of the holocaust in World War II &#8211; the memorial to the Murdered Jews in Berlin is a must see just to spend some time reflecting and to read the many stories.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Berlin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA120352-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Berlin\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA120352-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Berlin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA121513-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Berlin\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA121513-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Berlin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA121541-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Berlin\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA121541-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And, don&#8217;t forget the Jewish Museum and walking on these metal anonymous faces:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Berlin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA120083-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Berlin\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/Europe\/Germany2017\/GA120083-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the sadness, Berlin is a wonderful, friendly city to visit which reminds me of my home town of Melbourne &#8211; perhaps it is the grunge and graffiti.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My little trip to Berlin wouldn&#8217;t be complete without taking time out to reflect on how men can behave so inhumanely and yet we still have not learn&#8217;t the lessons of where fear takes us to the dark side of absolutes and persecution.
