{"id":8655,"date":"2017-07-17T22:21:41","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T12:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=8655"},"modified":"2017-07-17T22:24:23","modified_gmt":"2017-07-17T12:24:23","slug":"berlins-deutches-historisches-history-of-germany-museum-some-very-cool-works-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=8655","title":{"rendered":"Berlin&#8217;s Deutches Historisches &#8211; History of Germany Museum &#8211; some very cool works there"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I personally found the Deutches Historisches Museum quite fascinating and it is well designed in timeline order so that it is relatively easy to get a reasonable grasp of Germany&#8217;s history, albeit from a German point of view.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few of the displays I found particularly interesting.<\/p>\n<p>These were all shot with the <a title=\"my wiki page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusomdem1ii\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus OM-D E-M1 II Micro Four Thirds camera<\/a> with <a title=\"my wiki page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusmzd40-150pro\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus mZD 40-150mm f\/2.8 pro lens<\/a>, mostly at around 1\/8th sec handheld with full frame equivalent focal lengths around 200mm!<\/p>\n<p>17th century plague mask for doctors to hopefully protect them from catching the dreaded disease by placing herbs or sponges soaked with vinegar in the beak &#8211; I am guessing it didn&#8217;t stop the infection but it might have made the smell of rotting corpses easier to bear:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122019-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122019-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his family by Louis Carmontelle, 1770:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122032-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122032-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759) by Balthasar Denner, 1733:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122044-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122044-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Karl Gottlieb Luck&#8217;s porcelain work <em>Zwietracht in der Ehe<\/em> (Discord in Marriage) 1775 &#8211; beware the German woman scorned &#8211; domestic violence has a long history indeed!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122035-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122035-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Battle of Trafalgar<\/em> 1805 by William Miller in 1839:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122053-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122053-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nThe morning after the Battle of Waterloo<\/em> by John Heaviside Clark in 1816 who had created his sketches on site at the battle field which formed the basis for this haunting painting &#8211; but it seems we never learn from wars:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122057-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122057-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ludwig Knaus&#8217; Der Unzufriedene (The Malcontents or The Social Democrat), 1877 &#8211;  shows a brooding visitor in an inn. On the wall is a handbill from the 1877 parliamentary elections. The newspapers are social democratic ones.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122069-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122069-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>AEG&#8217;s electric light advertisement 1888:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122073-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122073-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Josef Rolletschek&#8217;s Die Vertriebenen (The Displaced) 1889:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122071-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122071-1.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Germania<\/em>, an image by Friedrich August von Kaulbach in 1914 which embodies Germany&#8217;s readiness to fight:  <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Deutches Historisches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122067-1-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Deutches Historisches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/art\/Berlin\/GA122067-1-2.jpg\" width=\"600\/\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I personally found the Deutches Historisches Museum quite fascinating and it is well designed in timeline order so that it is relatively easy to get a reasonable grasp of Germany&#8217;s history, albeit from a German point of view.
