- Edward AYTON (1810-1875)
  - a married man of Norfolk, England to wife Sarah, and father of 3 was convicted of being in possession of stolen fleeces of wool and transported to Tasmania in 1837 on the Blenheim for 7 years.
  - His wife Sarah, married a Henry Brown in England.
  - His daughter Maria married Thomas Yaxley and emigrated to Australia in 1857-62.
  - After serving his sentence he set up a coach run from Nile to Deloraine, married Hannah Woolnough, a free settler, had a child, Edward Henry to her, owned the Nile Hotel and a 320 acre block of land at Cressy, and bought or leased Calstock, a very desirable property near Deloraine.
  - Ayton, R - licensed Nile Hotel in Fordun Morven in 1862 - see here
  - perhaps he is the E. Ayton mentioned in the 1852 book by Louisa meredith and Daniel Griffin titled Early Deloraine.
  - He was buried in Evandale Cemetery near Launceston.

See here; Presumably moved to Launceston in c1875 where his wife had 2 more children. (I do not have direct evidence yet that this is the William Ayton (b1931-) but circumstantial evidence of the Pooley naming and year of birth suggests this is correct).

Eyton, Eighteen and Aytons of New Buckenham, Attleborough and Wymondham, south Norfolk

John Ayton (-1754) probably married Mary (-1772) around 1724 in the Attleborough area, and went on to have several children in New Buckenham between 1726 and 1742:
- John (bapt 1727) married Elizabeth Page (at Besthorpe, in 1755) and went on to initiate a line of Aytons in Wymondham, Hingham and Bunwell.
- Charles (Eighteen, bapt 1742) married Elizabeth LAKE (at Attleborough, in 1777) and initiated the Attleborough branch of the family.
  - his daughter Elizabeth married Robert Ayton of Burston in 1807 forming the Gissing branch of the Aytons (see tree)
  - his son William moved to London initiating a substantial line there

- William AYTON conducted a business, with varying success in the Huon area – west of Hobart.
- Robert Melrose AYTON came to Tasmania as a private in the Royal Staff Corps. In 1830 he was Overseer of Launceston Medical Dept. but in Nov. 1835 was executed.
