Introduction
- free camp ground 14km north of Bendigo in the Whipstick Forest which is part of the Greater Bendigo National Park
- hence horses and dogs not allowed and drones not allowed
- no mobile phone reception
- firewood collection is not allowed
Getting there
- access is via the unsealed Neilborough Road
- usual route from Melbourne is up the Calder Freeway and then bypass Bendigo city centre to the west and then going through Eaglehawk
- ~145km, 1hr 45min from NW suburbs
Facilities
- bollarded grassed open camp area but some room for a few caravans, surrounded by regenerated box and ironbark woodland forest and old gold fields
- large shelter
- drop toilets
- no water
- short bush walks to explore old gold diggings area such as Old Tom Mine (easy 30 minute return walk) - continue on to Flagstaff Hill for a panoramic lookout view across the surrounding landscape
