Nikon AF-S 300mm f/2.8 VR lenses

  • wide aperture super telephoto lens

  • Nikon's AF versions prior to 1996 when the 1st AF-S model came out, had such slow AF such that sports and wildlife photographers had changed over to Canon well before then and had no reason to change back to Nikon until Nikon introduced their NikonD3 in 2007

new Nikon 300mm f/2.8G VRII lens

  • replaced old version in 2009 with improved VR and nano coatings and more expensive
