Olympus m.ZD 8-25mm f/4 Pro lens

  • to be released June 2021
  • nice lens for travel, landscapes, and especially for video work with some close up capability
  • minimal flare, coma or CA
  • no visible focus breathing
  • bokeh a bit busy
  • sunstars are not great though apparently - 14 fairly diffused spikes even stopping down

  • 8-25mm wide angle zoom (16-50mm in FF terms)
  • 16 elements in 10 groups including 1 DSA, 1 Aspherical ED, 1 Super ED, 1 ED, 1 Super HD, 1 HR and 1 HD element
  • close focus 23cm giving 0.42x macro at 25mm (0.14x at 8mm)
  • 72mm filter
  • 7 rounded aperture blades
  • IPX1 water rated
  • front element includes a fluorine coating for easier cleaning
  • retracting zoom mechanism - need to twist the barrel to extend it for use
  • supports focus stacking on compatible Olympus bodies
  • MF clutch
  • lens function button
  • 77 x 88.5mm
  • 411g
  • $US1099

Compared to the Olympus mZD 7-14mm f/2.8

  • the f/4 lens is lighter, less expensive, more zoom range although not quite as wide
  • able to use filters
  • one stop less bright so not as good for indoors or low light
  • lens extends on zooming and needs to be unlocked for use
