{"id":4724,"date":"2011-07-31T20:50:46","date_gmt":"2011-07-31T10:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=4724"},"modified":"2011-08-01T22:13:46","modified_gmt":"2011-08-01T12:13:46","slug":"in-celebration-of-the-wonderfully-smooth-bokeh-of-the-rokinon-85mm-f1-4-manual-focus-lens-another-demonstration-of-its-amazing-qualities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=4724","title":{"rendered":"In celebration of the wonderfully smooth bokeh of the Rokinon 85mm f\/1.4 manual focus lens &#8211; another demonstration of its amazing qualities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/44919156@N00\/5992986821\/in\/photostream\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/lenstests\/Rokinon85mmGH1_atF1.4.JPG\" alt=\"Rokinon bokeh\" width=600\/><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"description_div5992986821\">\n<p id=\"yui_3_3_0_3_13121088105051168\">Compare all 6 images from this series &#8211; see them on <a title=\"My Flickr set\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/44919156@N00\/sets\/72157627312850608\/\" target=\"_blank\">my Flickr set<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>amazingly cheap Rokinon 85mm f\/1.4 manual focus lens<\/strong> on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?page_id=1510\" target=\"_blank\">Micro Four Thirds camera<\/a> (The Panasonic GH-1) bokeh and CA test on an extremely challenging subject &#8211; a strongly backlit wax mannequin with a multitude of highlights on the pearls &#8211; a challenge for any lens wide open &#8211; but this lens passes it easily &#8211; even with a cheap UV filter and no lens hood!<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_3_0_3_13121088105051180\">This image is to show how good the rear bokeh is for out of focus areas at f\/1.4 but at closer focus than the others in this series to give even shallower depth of field &#8211; look at the pearl highlights in the rear.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_3_0_3_13121088105051171\">AWB in artificial light.<br \/>\nNo cropping.<br \/>\nRAW file with no post-processing performed other than Lightroom export with resizing and compressing for the web and its default standard sharpening.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_3_0_3_13121088105051177\"><strong>This len gives me similar imagery to my Canon EF 135mm f\/2.0L lens at f\/2.0 on my Canon 1D Mark III camera<\/strong> at 1\/5th the price and less than half the weight (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=4412\">here for my comparisons<\/a>) &#8211; no wonder my Canon stays at home now!<\/p>\n<p>The amazing 1920&#8217;s flapper styled wax mannequin and pearl-beaded head piece belong to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grayreidgallery.com.au\">Ken Gray and Alister Reid Gallery of Melbourne<\/a> who created the pearl jewelry and kindly consented to me photographing it in their store, as well as creating unique, high quality, individualised jewelry which can be re-fashioned from your existing jewelry &#8211; if you are in Melbourne, check their work and gallery in Collins St.<\/p>\n<p>As I love this lens so much, I bought another one from Ebay tonight &#8211; this time in a Nikon mount so I have greater versatility:<\/p>\n<p>I can let my friends use it on their Nikon (it is better than my friend&#8217;s mark I Nikkor 85mm f\/1.4)<\/p>\n<p>I can use it with AF-confirm adapter <strong>on my Canon 1D Mark III as a 110mm field of view f\/1.4<\/strong> (it is way better wide open than my Canon EF 85mm f\/1.8 lens)<\/p>\n<p>I can use it on my Four Thirds dSLR and gain image stabilisation as well as AF confirm giving me <strong>an effective 170mm field of view f\/1.4 IS lens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I can use it on my Micro Four Thirds and have easy live view magnification, and if I want, via the <strong>LensBaby Tilt Transformer<\/strong>, I can convert it into a tilt lens.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Compare all 6 images from this series &#8211; see them on my Flickr set.
