{"id":5826,"date":"2012-10-26T00:40:20","date_gmt":"2012-10-25T14:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=5826"},"modified":"2012-10-26T00:41:50","modified_gmt":"2012-10-25T14:41:50","slug":"the-olympus-mzd-75mm-f1-8-lens-in-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wp02\/?p=5826","title":{"rendered":"The Olympus mZD 75mm f\/1.8 lens in action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Olympus released the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusmzd75mm\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus 75mm f\/1.8 lens<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:microfourthirds\" target=\"_blank\">Micro Four Thirds cameras<\/a> in the middle of this year and I am now a proud owner of said lens.<\/p>\n<p>This is a lens that suits my style of photography and will now replace my heavy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:canon1diii\" target=\"_blank\">Canon 1D Mark III<\/a> pro dSLR with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:canonef135mmf2\" target=\"_blank\">Canon 135mm f\/2.0L lens<\/a> as it gives a similar imagery when that lens is used at about f\/2.8 which is my usual aperture for 3\/4 body shots but is sharper, and more importantly is image stabilsied on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:olympusomdem5\" target=\"_blank\">Olympus E-M5 camera<\/a> so that I don&#8217;t have to get too worried about camera shake at flash sync when using fill-in flash which was always an issue with the Canon.<\/p>\n<p>Even better, the E-M5 will allow rapid autofocus on the subject&#8217;s closest eye wherever it is within the frame, and rarely do I place the subject&#8217;s eye in the central third where the AF sensors are in dSLRs.<\/p>\n<p>The fast AF makes my lovely, but manual focus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/wiki\/doku.php?id=photo:rokinon85mm\" target=\"_blank\">Rokinon 85mm f\/1.4 lens<\/a> redundant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a fantastic combination and made even better given the price, weight, size and the lovely bokeh.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are a couple of quick shots I took on an annoyingly sunny day in a forest which gives lots of contrasty imagery and very busy backgrounds, yet the 75mm f\/1.8 handled this with ease.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA192093-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA192093-1.jpg\" alt=\"forest bokeh\" width=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>forest wild flowers in Victoria, Australia in Spring:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA192092-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA192092-1.jpg\" alt=\"wild flowers\" width=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and despite a field of view of a 150mm lens, the following shot taken without care was reasonably sharp even at <strong>1\/20th sec hand held<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA141797-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ayton.id.au\/gary\/photos\/ByLens\/OlympusEM5\/OlympusmZD75mm\/GA141797-1.jpg\" alt=\"wild flowers\" width=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/44919156@N00\/sets\/72157631711503819\/\" target=\"_blank\">more shots with the 75mm lens on my Flickr set here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olympus released the Olympus 75mm f\/1.8 lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras in the middle of this year and I am now a proud owner of said lens.
