AC inverter / DC battery charger combo devices

- MOST CAMPERS DO NOT NEED AN AC INVERTER!
- most modern laptops (if you must take one camping) can be run or at least charged using standard USB-C cables and a 60W Power USB-C adapter to a cig lighter plug (cig. lighters can do up to 10A or 120-150W)
- AC inverters can easily overheat and may catch on fire - ensure they are well ventilated, and are of good quality
- if you decide you need one, get a PURE SINE WAVE type if you plan to use electronics, audio or medical equipment
Introduction
- RV and caravan owners would probably prefer to have a combined AC inverter - DC Charger device which makes life far more simple as it can seemlessly:
- When connected to AC supply:
- charge your lithium battery from AC power supply
- go into AC bypass mode and power your AC devices
- When not connected to AC supply:
- go into AC inverter mode to power your AC devices from your battery (often with <20msec switching so it may be able to act like a Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) )
- some also have DC-DC charging:
- this allows charging of battery from the vehicle alternator
- some also have solar charging with inbuilt MPPT solar controller:
- this allows charging of batter via solar panels
- these are generally designed to be safely mounted and grounded to vehicle and will require adequate ventilation

- for most campers 2000W AC inverter will be optimum but this will require 200A BMS to power it with a 250-300A inline fuse to the battery

- adds a regulated pure sine wave 2000W AC inverter to allow running 240V from your battery with (needs 100A BMS x 2 for 2000W) - via IEC14 10A AC output cable
- RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker + Circuit Breaker) but to effectively detect an earth leakage fault, the inverter must be used in a system with a Multiple Earth Neutral Link (MEN Link) - the Earth tab on the PowerBoss must be connected to the chassis of the vehicle, mobile structure, or fixed installation where it is installed.
