gateway to the Victorian snowfields of Mt Hotham & Falls Creek as well as the minor field of Mt Buffalo

Great Alpine Road:

  - snow village at the summit of Mt Hotham
  - 360km or 4.5hrs via Milawa, Myrtleford, Bright & Harrietville, Bright is a good place to rest & get ski hire & snow chains
  - alternative route is 460km or 5.5hrs via Bairnsdale & Omeo with Dinner Plain township on the Omeo side of Mt Hotham Resort - ski hire & snow chains at Bairnsdale or Omeo
  - over-snow transport not required as visitors can unload their vehicles at their accommodation then park in the nearest car space ($26/day?) which can be some distance away, but regular courtesy vehicles operate late into the night.
  - parking attendants will direct you to the car spaces.

- Dargo High Plains:
  - no access in Winter
  - road joins Omeo Hwy at Omeo

Mt Beauty:
- picturesque rural alpine town
- windy road with steep descent access from Bright or access from Wodonga via Kiewa Valley Hwy
- Mt Beauty Music Muster
Falls Creek:
- snow village 356km or 4.5hrs from Melbourne via Milawa, Myrtleford & Mt Beauty
- cafe, ski & snow chain hire at Mt Beauty
- consider resting for food at Oxley or Milawa en route
- overnight visitors get to village via over-snow vehicles with caterpillar tracks at $25pp return? - unload car at the over-snow terminal and then park where directed at $24/day?
- day trippers can get to village via two chairlifts close to the car parks

Mt Buffalo:
- National Park close to Bright,
- 325km or 3.5hrs from Melbourne via Milawa, Myrtleford & Porepunkah
- consider rest spot at Oxley or Milawa which has wineries and restaurants & gourmet food stores including King River cafe & Food on Wood
- hire snow chains & ski gear at Myrtleford or Porepunkah, or Bright
- snow in late Winter, early Spring for toboganning & cross-country skiing
