BOM gas canister stoves for camping

Introduction

these gas stoves are those which are designed to run on high pressure propane gas from 468g BOM gas canister but often can also be used with LPG gas bottles via adapters

this may not be wise as smaller non-BOM stoves are generally engineered to be optimised for the lower vapour pressures of butane or butane/propane mixes

BOM canister are tall and if a stove is attached directly to the top there is a high risk of it and the pot on it tipping over
in Australia, they are generally sold with a removable thin black plastic base but this only allows them to stand upright - but do not do anything to reduce risk of tipping over

Naturehike Double Burner Folding Camp Stove
- pot / fry pan size is limited to 19cm diameter (not sure its a good idea to overhang the pot over the connecting gas tube)
- packs to 23L x 15W x 28H cm 2.3kg; 2300W/16,000 BTU combined power output which may not suffice for your needs if you have to boil a large amount of water quickly;
- compared to standard 2 burner LPG gas stoves which pack to much wider storage at ~59L x 32D x 11.5H cm 5kg or 62L x 36W x 13.5H cm for the 7.1kg Coleman HyperFlame but these have much more powerful burners at 12000 or 25000BTU per burner and the HyperFlame could take larger frypans

must use the https://www.snowys.com.au/2-burner-stove-regulator-assembly to connect to BOM gas and this can be a bit fiddly to connect to the BBQ and it annoyingly sticks out the side and can be damaged and you may need a 3/8“ BSP to POL adapter to connect to a POL bottle
- may need a spare Coleman Propane Regulator Arm in case it breaks
  - metal is very soft (aluminum) and eventually strips out but should last over 100 camping trips
  - some have complained the regulator valve where the tank attaches can leak - perhaps a stuck pressure relief valve
  - make sure you don't lose the washer and it is not faulty
can be connected to 3/8” BSP LPG gas bottles via the BOM to 3/8“ BSP hose - these are usually included with the BBQ
can be connected to POL/LCC27 LPG gas bottles via a BOM to POL hose or BOM to LCC27 hose or with a 3/8”BSP to POL adapter - optional extra
cannot be connected to a LPG bottle with it's own regulator (eg. on caravans)

  - great for boiling water or hot meals but not great for slow simmers as hard to adjust as only a quarter turn of knob from simmer to full
