Goulburn Valley district

Goulburn River

  • the upper Goulburn river is a lovely alpine stream which forms in the Victorian Alps and runs into Lake Eildon near Jamieson
  • the main Goulburn River is the outlet of Lake Eildon at Eildon which then runs north-westwards through Thornton, Alexandra, Molesworth, then to the north of Yea, to Trawool, Seymour, then turns northwards on its way to joining the Murray River east of Echuca - in so doing it passes through Nagambie, Murchison, Shepparton and under McCoys Bridge
  • much of its flood waters pass upstream in the Murray River into the Barmah State Forest and heads north up the Edward River to Deniliquin and then re-joins the Murray near Swan Hill

  • Rushworth:

    • Rushworth State Forest - largest box-ironbark forest in Victoria
